Biometric Unlock
Where: Settings → Security → Biometric Unlock
Biometric unlock lets you open your vault using your device's fingerprint sensor, face recognition, or Windows Hello instead of typing your master password every time.
How to Enable
- Toggle "Biometric Unlock" on
- The app checks if your device supports biometrics
- You're prompted to enter your master password to confirm your identity
- Your master password is securely stored in your device's hardware-backed keystore
- A confirmation message appears when setup is complete
How to Disable
- Toggle "Biometric Unlock" off
- A confirmation dialog appears
- Confirm — your stored credentials are removed from the device's secure storage
When Biometric Unlock Is Unavailable
Biometric unlock may temporarily disable itself if:
- You added or removed a fingerprint from your device — for security, the app requires re-enrollment
- The biometric has been unused for too long (policy timeout)
- Your device's biometric hardware is unavailable
In these cases, use your master password to unlock, then re-enable biometric unlock in Settings.
Platform Names
The setting label adapts to your platform:
- Android: "Fingerprint" or "Biometric"
- iOS: "Face ID" or "Touch ID"
- Windows: "Windows Hello"
- macOS: "Touch ID"
Auto-Lock Timeout
Where: Settings → Security → Auto-Lock Timeout
Controls how long the app waits before automatically locking your vault when you're not actively using it.
Options: 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes
Default: 5 minutes
How to change:
- Tap the Auto-Lock Timeout setting
- Select your preferred timeout from the dropdown
- The new setting takes effect immediately
Recommendation: Use 1 or 5 minutes for the best security. Only use longer timeouts if you're in a secure, private environment.
Allow Screenshots
Where: Settings → Security → Allow Screenshots
Controls whether screenshots and screen recording are allowed while DavianVault is open.
Default: Off (screenshots are blocked)
When screenshots are blocked:
- Taking a screenshot shows a blank or black image
- Screen recording captures a blank screen
- On Android, the app appears blank in the Recent Apps view
How to change:
- Toggle "Allow Screenshots" on or off
- The change takes effect immediately
Recommendation: Keep this off for security. Only enable it temporarily if you need a screenshot for support purposes.
Reset Master Password
Where: Settings → Security → Reset Master Password
Lets you change your master password. This re-encrypts your entire vault with a new key and also generates a new recovery key.
How to Change Your Master Password
- Tap "Reset Master Password"
- Enter your current master password
- Enter your new master password — must meet all requirements:
- At least 12 characters
- At least one uppercase letter (A-Z)
- At least one lowercase letter (a-z)
- At least one number (0-9)
- At least one special character
- Must be different from your current password
- Confirm your new master password by entering it again
- Tap "Change Master Password"
- The app re-encrypts your vault (this may take a moment)
After Changing
A dialog appears showing your new recovery key:
- Your old recovery key is now invalid
- The new recovery key is shown in monospace text
- You can copy it to clipboard or save it to a file
- Tap "I have saved this key" to dismiss
Save this new recovery key immediately — it replaces your old one and is the only way to recover your vault if you forget the new password.
If cloud sync is enabled, the updated vault is automatically uploaded to Google Drive.
Important Notes
- After changing your master password, use the new password on all your devices
- Sync your vault to update other devices with the new encryption
- The old password will no longer work
- An info card reminds you: "Make sure to remember your new master password. There is no way to recover it if you forget it."
