Cloud Sync
What Is Cloud Sync?
Cloud Sync backs up your encrypted vault to your Google Drive account. This lets you:
- Access your vault on multiple devices (sign in with the same Google account)
- Recover your vault if you lose your device
- Keep your vault up to date across devices
Your vault is encrypted on your device before uploading — Google cannot read your data.

How to Enable Cloud Sync
- Go to Settings → Cloud Sync
- Toggle Cloud Sync on
- Your vault is uploaded to Google Drive immediately
How to Sync Manually
- Tap "Sync Now"
- The app uploads your encrypted vault to Google Drive
- A success message appears when complete
If your session has expired, you may be asked to re-authenticate with Google.
How to Restore from Cloud
- Tap "Restore from Cloud"
- The app downloads the latest backup from Google Drive
- Validates the backup integrity
- If there's a conflict (both local and cloud have changed), you'll be asked how to resolve it
- Enter your master password when prompted
- The vault is restored
If the password is wrong, your local vault is automatically returned to its previous state (rollback).
Background Sync
When enabled, the app periodically syncs your vault in the background:
- Toggle Background Sync on
- Set the Sync Interval (from 15 minutes to 4 hours)
- The app automatically uploads changes at the configured interval
The "Next Sync" display shows when the next automatic sync will occur.
Conflict Resolution
When both your local vault and cloud backup have been modified since the last sync, a conflict occurs. You can choose how conflicts are handled:
| Strategy | What Happens |
|---|---|
| Always Ask (default) | Shows you both versions and lets you choose |
| Prefer Cloud | Automatically uses the cloud version |
| Prefer Local | Automatically keeps your local version |
| Smart Merge | Attempts to merge changes intelligently |
Recommendation: "Always Ask" is safest — you'll always see what's different before deciding.
Cloud Backup Versions
Tap "Cloud Backup Versions" to see all backup versions stored on Google Drive:
- Each version shows its date, size, and whether it's the latest
- Up to 10 versions are retained
- For each version, you can:
- Restore — download and restore that version (requires master password)
- Delete — remove that version from Google Drive
Compression Level
Controls how much backups are compressed before uploading:
| Level | Description |
|---|---|
| 0 | No compression (fastest, largest files) |
| 3 | Low compression |
| 6 | Medium compression (default) |
| 9 | Maximum compression (smallest files, slowest) |
Higher compression means smaller uploads but slightly more processing time.
Device Nickname
Set a friendly name for this device to identify it in sync logs and conflict reports:
- Tap "Device Nickname"
- Enter a name (e.g., "Work Laptop", "Personal Phone")
- The nickname appears in conflict resolution screens and audit logs
Important Notes
- Your vault is always encrypted before upload — Google cannot read your data
- Cloud sync uses your Google Drive's private app folder — only DavianVault can access it
- You can disable cloud sync at any time without losing local data
- If you sign in on a new device, the app automatically detects and offers to restore your cloud backup
